On Sunday Morning around 11:30a.m. a huge blast rocked the Ct River Valley in Middletown, sending shock waves down the Ct River as far away as Guilford to the south, and Mystic to the north. The Kleen Energy Power Plant , a billion $$+ construction project that was due to go on line in June or July was purging lines and preparing for test trials. The Middletown Dispatch Center immediatley struck a General Alarm+ and declared the scene a MCI due to numerous const. vehicles on site. Some of the victims were obvious to the 1st responders, but many were unaccounted for. Fire supression, and search and rescue efforts were hampered until the natural gas, and power were secured, A massive response resulted in multiple staging areas, local and federal govt. task forces, and agency's too numerous to track was in the making. It was believed that 50+ people were in the plant which suffered severe damage. At this writing there are 5 confirmed fatality's along with numerous injuries. The scene is now (MonA.M.) under the direction of USAR, and The Ct. State FMO. Building searches are still in progress and it is still a very active site. The pics used here were obtained from local media reps Bettina Hansen of The Hartford Courant, Jeff Daricek, and http://www.fox61.com.
